Early this afternoon we lost access to the outgoing mail server and the web server. At this time we have determined the cause: a disk drive has failed in the server. A replacement has been obtained and is in the process of being installed. There is a lot of recover that will be required to get the server back on-line. It is not likely to be back until sometime early tomorrow.

As of this time we have discovered that not all SATA drives are usable on our server. We will have to wait till tomorrow to try another drive. In addition, it appears the mother board may also have failed. This looks like its going to get worse before it gets better. The server will not be up early tomorrow. Hopefully later tomorrow.

The temporary replacement server is up and running. However, not all services can be handled as it just doesn't have enough horse power. The temp server is a very old machine. Outgoing mail and dial-in are working properly. I have brought up a portion of the LAFN web pages. Many of the community pages are not present and Personal Web Pages are not available.

Remote Mail was brought up for a short time to see what the workload would be. However, it was completely tying up the server and interfering with sending outgoing mail. Therefore I had to disable it again.

We don't have an estimate when the production server will be repaired yet.

Remote Mail is back on again. I have reduced its footprint so that it plays a bit nicer with the system.

The production server has been repaired and is back for reconfiguration. There is a lot of data to restore to it so it may not be ready for production tomorrow. It may have to wait till Monday.
